We're really excited to be hosting an in-conversation with Sheena Patel, celebrating the launch of her debut novel, I'm A Fan.
The narrator of I'm A Fan - and the singular voice throughout the book - is obsessed with the man she wants to be with and obsessed with the other women in his life. Every character we meet here behaves in a toxic way - in real life, on social media, and in the blurred space between the two. As our narrator struggles to cope with rejection, obsession, anger and love, her destructive ways, thoughts and actions are both unbearable to witness and weirdly relatable. With stunning writing and dark humour, I'm A Fan is a critique of our social media and status-obsessed culture.
Like an endless scroll, it's highly addictive and will have you squirming with pleasure.
Sheena is a writer who also performs as part of collective 4 BROWN GIRLS WHO WRITE, and The Observer cited her one of their top 10 debut novelists of 2022.
Exeter City of Literature are supporting this event as part of Independent Bookshop Week. Tickets are free and you can pre order Sheena's book with us.
