Sun 8 Nov / Meet The Artist: Yuka Kawamoto and the Knowledge Forest

An interactive, immersive story forest by Yuka Kawamoto. Meet the artist for a 30 minute taljk about the show, running at Bookbag for two weeks. This is a free, drop in event.

‘We grow a tree of knowledge when we come together’

The Knowledge Forest is a participatory art project that nurtures a “Knowledge Forest” through the bond between people and books—
aiming to turn the bookshop into a warm, communal space.

Yuka imagined this story:
“As people read, they grow a tree of knowledge above their heads.
By connecting these trees within the library, we can create a forest where people naturally gather.” Based on this idea, Yuka made an installation using motifs of leaves, trees, and forests.

Participants write book recommendations on paper leaves made from discarded books, and hang them in the forest.
When someone found a book that intrigued them, they connected the leaves.
Over time, the forest grows—organically and collaboratively.

After the exhibition, the leaves will be rebound into a book, preserving their connections.
