Shon Faye -Talk and Signing Live at Exeter College
Share
Shon Faye is a writer from Bristol and a fresh, vital voice on trans politics. Her first book, The Transgender Issue, was published last year and became an instant Sunday Times bestseller.
Trans people in Britain today find themselves part of a culture war and an increasingly polarised ‘debate’. Instead of being involved in meaningful conversations, trans people are often left out, and denied their voice. Shon Faye’s book reclaims the idea of the 'transgender issue’, uncovering what it’s like to be trans in a transphobic society. From youth to old age, Faye’s book tackles issues like work, family, housing, healthcare, and being part of the LGBTQ+ and feminist communities.
A smart, powerfu,l and inspiring speaker, Faye will be discussing why her book is a mandate for change, and how new, healthier conversation about trans life offer the possibility of a more just, free and joyful world for us all.
After the talk, Shon will be signing copies of the book, available to pre order, or buy on the night, at a special price.
This event is at Exeter College and open to all. It is a collaboration between Exeter UNESCO City of Literature, Exeter Decolonising Network, Exeter College, Exeter Trans and Non-binary Café, Bookbag, Intercom Trust, Rethinking Sexology and the Students’ Guild at University of Exeter.
