Bookbag's first Open Mic of the year is a nod to Burns Night.
Burns Night is annually celebrated in Scotland on or around January 25. It commemorates the life of the bard Robert Burns, born on January 25, 1759. The day celebrates Burns' contribution to Scottish culture and began when friends of Burns threw a poetry night to celebrate Burns five years after his early death. Burns, born to a tenant farmer, wrote poetry his whole life, about nature, class, revolution, what it meant to be Scottish - you can get a deep dive here: Robert Burns | The Poetry Foundation
