Fri 16 June| Transient Lives: In Conversation with Damilola Lemomu

Join Eleanor Lionel and Damilola Lemomu- the artist behind the award nominated 'Promised Land'- as we delve into the issues raised in the work.

Transient Lives is a project consisting of a screening of the film Promised Land by Damilola Lemomu and an ‘in conversation’ session with the artist at Bookbag about issues of immigration and integration.

In Promised Land Damilola explores the experience of immigrants from the Commonwealth living in the UK and if it lives up to the stories they were told about the greatness of Britain. Damilola’s award nominated work weaves together archival research, re-enactments by the descendants of immigrants of oral histories and poetry by Gboyega Odubanjo.

At Bookbag we will delve into the inspiration behind Damilola’s film and her practice more widely. We will discuss the issues surrounding race, reasons for migration, the experience of migrants and how this may differ to the experience of their descendants. Welcoming input from the audience, we will explore if the promises that Britain made have been fulfilled.
