16-25 September / Film / Exeter Phoenix in partnership with Bookbag presents: Queen of Glory

We're excited to team up with Exeter Phoenix for 'Queen of Glory' because it's a gem of an indie film, written, directed by and starring Nana Mensa (talent), and because the story is set mainly in a bookshop, in the Bronx. And also, like reading real books, movies watched on a big screen in an indie space should be cherished.

‘Queen of Glory’ is the story of Sarah Obeng, the brilliant child of Ghanaian immigrants, who is quitting her Ivy League PhD program to follow her married lover to Ohio. When her mother dies suddenly, she leaves her daughter a Christian bookstore in the Bronx where Sarah was raised. A follow-up on the classic immigrant’s tale, Queen of Glory is funny and empathetic, as its heroine is reborn through her inheritance.

Bookbag and Exeter Phoenix have also commissioned a local artist for a creative response to the film. Details on this coming real soon.

'Queen of Glory' is showing at Exeter Phoenix from 16th September, and Bookbag people can get £7 tickets by using the discount code BOOKBAGQUEEN - this can be applied at the checkout online, or via the box office. £5 tickets for Students and under 25s are as Standard.
